If you are applying for NCCAOM certification in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbology, and/or Oriental Medicine and have
graduated from an educational institution outside the United States, you must submit a Foreign Education Review
Application (FERA) directly to the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO),
along with all educational documents (i.e., official graduate transcript, diploma) in order to receive an evaluation of your
foreign credentials. AACRAO does not “approve” foreign educational institutions but rather determines whether a school
is recognized by a foreign governmental agency, such as a Ministry of Health or Ministry of Education. Your courses
must be equivalent to the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) curricular
requirements.
Procedure for Candidates Educated Outside the United States:
You may download the Foreign Education Review Application (FERA) Form from the NCCAOM website, under Educated Outside United States found under Site Search section of the website. You must complete the FERA application and mail it with the current FERA fee to:
American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO)
International Educational Services
One Dupont Circle, NW Suite 520
Washington, D.C. 20036-1135
Submit your FERA application to AACRAO at least eight weeks prior to submitting your certification application to NCCAOM.
AACRAO typically completes its credential review within eight weeks after the receipt of your FERA application, official transcripts and diploma. (AACRAO cannot guarantee that the credentials review will be completed in that time frame. In some cases, AACRAO may request information or documents from applicants, and this will necessarily extend the length of the equivalency review).
Please note that your application for NCCAOM certification is valid for four years from the date it is received by NCCAOM. NCCAOM will not begin the review of your application until we have received your completed evaluation report from AACRAO. It is therefore recommended that you do not submit your application to NCCAOM until you have received your credential review from AACRAO.
When your AACRAO evaluation is completed:
- Submit your notarized application for certification to the NCCAOM.
- Request that your school send an official transcript directly to the NCCAOM.
- Submit a notarized copy of your graduation certificate/diploma (the NCCAOM will accept copies of certificates and Diplomas with a raised seal sent directly from your school or notarized photocopies of certificates and diplomas from the applicant.
Please note that all official transcripts must be sent directly from the school you attend.
